Every task opens with its objective, why it matters, and the resources behind it — before you touch any instructions.
Build
Do the work in your own editor and tools. Evidence can be a repository, a commit, a tag, a URL, a test result, a benchmark, a demo, or plain markdown — whatever actually proves the work.
Prove
Package your evidence into a submission. The app validates required evidence before you can submit, and every submission becomes a durable, versioned Git object — not a database row.
Reflect
Structured reflection prompts (drawn from the task itself) autosave locally and save durably to Git when you're ready, with an AI reflection coach and an AI-use disclosure built in.
Review
Your mentor reviews the task requirements, your evidence, and your reflection side by side, then approves, requests revisions, or opens a discussion — all recorded as a durable review object in Git.

No application backend, no proprietary database, no vendor lock-in. Curriculum, tasks, reflections, submissions, and mentor reviews are all just plain files — in a local folder or a Git repository you choose to sync — yours to keep, move, or fork at any time.

Browse the curriculum, read resources, work tasks, write reflections, run local AI, and search — all without a connection. Sync happens only when you choose to fetch, reconcile, commit, and push.
AI that assists, never decides
Explain, hint, quiz, and reflection-coaching are available on every task, governed by that task's own AI policy — and AI never auto-approves a submission. Review always ends with a human.

apprenti.dev isn't tied to one subject. The first official path is the Software Engineering apprenticeship, but the app is built to run any curriculum you fork or author from scratch.

apprenti creator is a companion VS Code extension for building and maintaining curricula — a visual path canvas, entity editors with live markdown preview, a locale board for translations, and a competency matrix, all writing the exact same files the app reads. It's the studio for designing the path, not a second runtime.

There's no apprenti.dev backend. Git is the durable, synchronized store — everything else is a fast local view on top of it.
That means no vendor lock-in, no accounts to lose access to, and no service that can shut down and take your apprenticeship history with it. Everything you can see in the app, you can also read straight out of the repository.
Curriculum, tasks, reflections, submissions, and mentor reviews — all plain JSON and Markdown files, versioned like any other code.
Just a remote, like any other. Fetch, commit, and push on your own schedule — nothing is synced automatically without you.
A fast, on-device copy for offline browsing, full-text search, and AI indexing. It can always be rebuilt from Git — it's a cache, never the record of truth.

apprenti.dev is free — no tiers, no subscription, and that's a permanent commitment, not an introductory offer. There's no backend to run and no hosting to fund: Git is already free, your repository is already yours, and any AI cost is a provider key you bring and control yourself, not a markup we charge. Because everything durable is a plain Git repository, you can fork the app's curriculum or the ecosystem itself at any time — there's no platform to be locked into.
